On this episode of The UK Surf Show we chat to 16 year old big wave surfer Ben Larg.
Ben came to our attention through Peter Conroy and The Scottish Surfer who have both been on previous episodes of the show and had nothing but good things to say about this young lad from Tiree in Scotland.
After speaking to Ben, we can see why they were so taken with him. He’s a lovely, confident lad but what’s more impressive than that is that Ben Larg must be made of pure titanium (or at least his balls are) because, at just 14 years old, he surfed a 30 – 40 foot monster wave at Mullaghmore in Ireland! It’s a beast as you can see from the video below!

Ben tells us of how, when filming a documentary at the age of 14, he went over to Ireland where he ended up meeting Peter Conroy and his crew and was invited to come and have a look at Mullaghmore and go out on one of the jet skis just to have a look and with no intention of actually surfing.
After being out there for a few hours one of the guys said “Do you feel like a wave Ben ?” and off he went.
The way Ben describes the whole situation and the feeling of riding a Mully monster is absolutely fantastic and says that he still gets chills just thinking about it.
Ben tells us some brilliantly funny stories on this episode, from cars randomly catching fire on the first day at a new school to his dad passing out when he gets too nervous which is just absolutely hilarious!
Ben’s now surfed loads of big waves in Lanzarote and hopes to go to Nazaré once he can travel again and his foot has healed from a nasty accident he had in a tiny 1 – 2 foot surf!
