Scott Mitchell – The Scottish Surfer – Life Saver & Toastie lover
On Episode 29 of The UK Surf Show, Pete and Leighton chat to Scott Mitchell aka Mitch The Scottish Surfer.
The Scottish Surfer was first brought to our attention after he saved someone’s life on a beach in Scotland and put out a video on Instagram after realising that a lot of surfers out there wouldn’t know what to do if they were in the same situation and just wanted to bring attention to it.

Mitch goes into great detail about the events that unfolded that day and how his life saving training kicked in and himself and a few others worked on the casualty until the paramedics turned up.
“Scottish Surfer; I hate saying that!”
Mitch says “I hate saying that” but we think it’s something he wears with pride; a proud Scots man, a great surfer and all round great guy who we felt like we could have chatted for a lot longer than a single podcast episode.
His love for life, surfing, toasties and his sense of humour really shine through in this episode.
Mitch talks about everything from saving lives and surfing in the army, which has taken him surfing to some amazing spots around the world, surfing with dolphins to surfing right outside his house in Scotland where he says he gets some very strange looks as where he lives isn’t exactly known for surfing.
Scottish Surfing Federation and Social Media
Mitch has recently been appointed Scottish Surfing Federation Social Media Officer as well as the Assistant Sponsorship Coordinator and was super excited about when we spoke to him. We think its totally deserved!
He’s also not doing too badly on his own social media, namely his Instagram account where, at the time of writing this, he has over just 21,000 followers!
Surfing Scotland, Pop ups & Skateboarding
Although Mitch has surfed all over the UK and around the world, he says one of his favourite places to surf is St Andrews in Scotland and whilst there he always manages a stop at The Cheese Toastie Shack which he mentions just a few times…
We talk about pop ups and The Pop Up Surf Pro and how he finds that his pop up has been a continuous struggle due to an old injury and and the many things he has tried to do to improve it.
We also chat skateboarding and surf skates and how, on a recent outing wearing a white t-shirt and board shorts, he managed to eat shit and land in the only muddy puddle for miles around but, as there were people around, he just had to get up and carry on rolling and style it out.

So Are you Actually sponsored by The Cheese Toastie Shack?
As you will no doubt hear if you listen to the episode, Mitch talks a lot about The Cheese Toastie Shack at St Andrews in Scotland A LOT!
It’s obviously a must on your list of places to stop and eat if you are ever in that part of the world. I mean it’s a long way to go for us just to get a toastie but maybe they are actually that good! We think we will wait until we can travel again and manage to get up to Scotland for some surfing.
The Scottish Surfer is currently Sponsored by Fourth Surfboards \ Toy Factory, Weret watches, Solite, Surf mould Pro and Daisy’s cold water surf cream.
