We chat to the nicest man in surfing Phil Williams.
Phil lives and breathes surfing and has done for his entire life. He is the most well-connected surfer in the UK. Everyone knows Phil and everyone loves him.
Phil starts the conversion by explaining what the Christian Surfers do and how they support the surfing community. Phil explains a little bit about his religion and that a passage in the Bible about living life to the full had a massive affect on him. Phil does live life to the full! Phil turned 60 this year (2021) and is still a high-level surf and skateboarder.
Phil tells us about the legendary Jesus Surf Classic, which is approaching its 30th year, and other events he has been part of.
There are many stories Phil has to tell, and we feel we only scratched the surface. The stories he mentions in this episode include how he met Nick Houndsfield (creater of the Bristol Wave), surfing around the world, working with the Adaptive Surf Team and paddling into the line up with Bethanie Hamilton.
As we came to leave Phil’s home, he gave us a Bible. We aren’t religious but we were both touched by this gesture and couldn’t help but be inspired buy Phil’s energy and passion.
