Carl Prechezer is a surfer, sup boarder and he is the writer and director of one of our favourite surf movies, Blue Juice.

Blue Buice came out at the perfect time in our lives in 1995 we were 15 years old and had never seen anything quite like it. It has, and still remains, a favourite film of ours for over 25 years now and we still find ourselves quoting lines from the film to this day on a regular basis.

Carl was a fantastic guest and shared with us a whole manner of information about the making and filming of Blue Juice which we have never heard before

Carl talks openly about Blue Juice from the casting and financial aspects of the film to seeing Steve Coogan among other actors who nearly got cast in the movie, to the film company not wanting Catherine Zeta Jones as they thought she wasn’t right for the part (boy, were they wrong!) to finding out that JC simply stands for JC and that all the cast lived together before the start of shooting and accidently took on their roles. When carl got there he was shocked!

Carl goes on to talk about filming locations for Blue Juice from St Agnus and St Ives in Cornwall to Lanzarote when the surf was too big and the surfers just refused to go out or, in Carl’s words, saying “Oh my God, it’s going off!” only to get the reply “Yeah! I think its going off a little too much.”

Carl shares with us some of his own surfing adventures and mishaps from paddling out in surf that was too big, to a sup board in the shin and having to be helped up the beach

Carl is currently doing the PR for the Wavelength drive-in movie theatre which runs from the 16th of July to the 5th of September 2021 and are showing some of the great cult classic surf films including the likes of Blue Juice, North Shore, Point Break and Endless Summer plus many more and all set on the cliffs overlooking the stunning Watergate Bay in Newquay, Cornwall.

This has been one of our favourite interviews to date mainly because Carl is such a lovely guy whose passion for surfing and community is one of the main reasons we think Blue Juice was such a success and we cant wait to surf with him at some point in the near future.
